Partnerships + Innovation
(P+I)
The latest addition to our awards program as we pursue supporting girls and women at every stage of their design journey. The P+I stands for Partnerships and Innovation. In practice, this means we seek out other non-profits (501c3 or 501c6) that have existing awards, initiatives, or programs that target women or girls who fall outside the bounds of our scholarships or mid-career fellowships. If they meet a whole series of requirements/considerations (what discipline does the group serve; how many kids/people can the $$ affect, is this to equalize socioeconomic disparity or gender, etc, etc) then we award grant money (currently ranging from about $2500-$4000) towards those programs.
We have currently partnered with ACE Mentoring (Arch, Engineering, Construction) to send a number of girls to their camps, and NOMA to send a female camper to their multi-day camp in Colorado, and ACLA Design Like a Girl (ACLA is the American Institute of Architects’s non-profit arm; they hold “Design Like a Girl” workshops for girls 11-14 to learn about careers in architecture, engineering and construction).
